About this Project
The Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) contractor widened I-75 from four to six/eight lanes from south of State Road 56 to north of County Road 54 in Pasco County.

All 8 traffic lanes were OPEN to TRAFFIC in March 2014

The project included adding lanes in each direction, shifting the roadway alignment near Tampa North Aero Park, extensive drainage construction, some overhead signing, and high mast lighting. With the widening finished, there are 3 through-lanes in each direction, plus one auxiliary lane in each direction between State Road 56 and County Road 54. The auxiliary lanes help handle the traffic entering and exiting the highway at the interchanges and at the rest areas.

Improvement Highlights

  • Widen the interstate from 4 to 8 lanes.
  • Improve drainage.
  • Tie in to the completed interstate project at the County Road 54 interchange and recent projects at the rest areas and the State Road 56 interchange.

Traffic Flow
The construction phasing was designed so that all existing lanes of traffic and interchange ramps were open on I-75 during peak traffic hours.

Night Work
In order to maintain the construction schedule and to minimize the impact to the traveling public, lane closures were planned for nighttime hours.

Lane Closure Hours
Interstate 75: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
